Abdul Tee-Jay originates from Sierra Leone, although his name Tejan-Jalloh like his parents is originally from Guinea. In the mid to late 80s in London there was an emerging music scene of African musicians; alongside the resurgence/renaissance of the next generation Jazz musicians. These artists often crossed paths and shared stages during this time. His band’s name Rokoto was the nickname for part of Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone. His music style was street – folk music and now is an exponent of palm wine music, a traditional style he aims to keep alive.
