Chris Philips presents weekdays from 10 am to 2 pm and The Blueprint from 10pm – 1am on Saturdays.
Chris Philips’ morning show is an effortless anecdotally loaded stroll through soul and jazz with a commanding delivery setting out to inform and entertain in a light hearted but enlightening way. He also hosts ‘The Blueprint’ late on Saturday nights, a romp through blazing hot new jazz releases with expansive interviews and special guest selectors.
Chris is a Jazz FM original. Having joined the station in 1989 he was chosen to host two sold out nights at the Royal Albert Hall and introduce Ella Fitzgerald and the Count Basie Orchestra to launch the station in March 1990. Over his spell at the station Chris has hosted festival stages and some of London’s biggest venues from Herbie Hancock at Albert Hall to Miles Davis at Hammersmith Apollo.
Chris has a deep knowledge and passion for the music with a 30 year history of playing jazz on the radio (with brief stints at Kiss and Choice to add to his knowledge) and conducts many of Jazz FM’s interviews from Carlos Santana and Earth, Wind and Fire to Grammy award winning new artists Esperanza Spalding, Robert Glasper and Gregory Porter and acclaimed ‘ahead of the curve players’ like Joshua Redman, Snarky Puppy and Trombone Shorty.
