Dave Reeves & Mr Phipps

Contains 1 performance.

Dave Reeves is a performer poet, freereed player and historian. In performance, he accompanies his spoken word performances on bluesharp and melodeon, amongst other instruments. At times he uses these to give his work a ‘hokum’ feel, at others he creates droning soundscapes as background to his voice. His performances are as at home in folk, world and roots venues as in arts centres & poetry cabarets. Listen to some of his work here and here

As a historian, he works with communities to create usable, relevant histories, recording personal stories and charting the lives of people themselves, in their own words. Increasingly in collaboration with Vaughn Reeves and their partners at Radio Wildfire, he works with recorded sound mixing interviews and actuality with original poems to create narratives and soundscapes which capture and archive occasions and journeys. He also writes Chronicles which sum up a moment or event using the words of people he meets.

His writing has been commissioned for inclusion in public art and by BBC national radio, and appeared in publications which include Poetry Australia, and Norwegian and South African text books. His Chronicles have been commissioned by festivals, conferences and to celebrate the launch of a giant foghorn sculpture through which he declaimed his text.

Dave also regularly works as a writer in community settings encouraging other people to express themselves in words. He also organizes Extreme Writing Workshops. Taken from http://www.textician.co.uk/
