Unconventional rock singer, five parts blues and five parts music hall - the whole amounting to a sort of proto-punk whose fans included a young John Lydon. Released numerous albums from 1972 onwards, sometimes on John Peel's Dandelion label. Died of lung fibrosis in 2004.
