Musician Steve Grocott writes:
I met Paul Rodden in Liverpool when I was a primary teacher who played guitar and he was an art student from Donegal who played the five-string banjo. We played together and he encouraged me to borrow a mandolin for a gig he had where he needed a standard bluegrass band - there were plenty of guitarists. I did that and then bought one, and ended up abandoning teaching and living in Donegal in Paul's uncle's pub where we played with traditional Irish musicians. We eventually hooked up with a jazz quartet and went out as a goodtime band which we named The Pyrotechnicos. Paul and I then ended up in London and played the pubs and folk festivals as a duo of the same name. Later Paul returned to Ireland and formed a new version of the band called The Pyros.
