A major phenomenon in popular music for a brief period in the late 1970s. As frontman of TRB (Tom Robinson Band), he left the world such era-defining anthems as ‘2-4-6-8 Motorway’, ‘Glad to be Gay’ and ‘Martin’. After the band’s messy implosion in 1979, he pursued more of a chanson direction, subsequently discovering a personable niche as a radio presenter. Listeners to BBC Radio 6 will be familiar with his eponymous Saturday show and his Now Playing programme.
