Chloe Poems

Contains 6 collection items, 8 performances, 14 in total. Currently showing 14 in total.

'Magnificent Scouse socialist gay transvestite gingham-clad incarnation' of Mancunian poet and playwright Gerry Potter. One of many poets described at one time or another as 'Pam Ayres on acid'. Signature pieces included 'What is this Thing Called Gay?', 'Drag is Dead' and the not-at-all-controversial 'The Queen Sucks Nazi D**k'. Potter discontinued the character in 2008 in order to keep her 'forever young'.

  • New Shoes

    New Shoes

    22 September 2000 at
    BAC (Battersea Arts Centre) (505)
The first in the New Shoes/Shoots series that ran between 2000 and 2005. These were showcases of new artists (though the word ‘new’ often seemed open to interpretation). Although it was not always the case, this one certainly features some soon-to-be-famous names.
  • The Route of All Poetry

    The Route of All Poetry

    8 November 2002 at
    BAC (Battersea Arts Centre) (505)
A showcase for Route, a ‘terraced publishing house in the north of England’ (Pontefract, to be precise). Founded in 2000, they publish poetry, novels, short stories and ‘culture’ books – the latter including memoirs by various luminaries from the Manchester music scene.

  • The Outsiders

    The Outsiders

    27 February 2004 at
    BAC (Battersea Arts Centre) (505)
A potentially classic show that sadly never happened in the advertised format. JCC phoned up earlier in the day, saying he had to ‘take Mark E Smith to hospital’ and wouldn’t be able to attend. Oh, to have been a fly on the wall of that car. Salena Godden depped ...

  • Have I Got Poems For You

Have I Got Poems For You

    4 March 2005 at
    BAC (Battersea Arts Centre) (505)
An overambitious idea based on the similarly titled TV show. The poets would do their sets in between exercising their spontaneous wit and responding to recent items of poetry ‘news’ (such as Joelle Taylor getting a new tattoo). Seemed like a good idea at the time…
